November 4th, 2007 Meeting Minutes

Minutes taken by Sandy Gambuti.

November 4th, 2007 meeting minutes for KMHC

OPENING:

The meeting was called to order at 1:00 PM.

A thank you was extended to Kathy and Bud Sellers for inviting us into their home.

Minutes were read by Sandy Gambuti.

Sandy Lapp questioned the minutes read at the September 9th meeting in regards to the number of paid members. Kathy LaFrana was not present at this meeting to answer the questions as to the correct number so the minutes had not been accepted. After some investigation we found that the treasurer's report was fine and that we should accept it.

A motion was made by Kathy Sellers to accept the minutes read at the September 9th meeting.

Motion was seconded by Karen Freeborn.

Motion carried.

TREASURER'S REPORT;

In Kathy LaFrana read the Treasurer's report. A copy of the treasurer's report is available upon request to members in good standing.

KMHC currently has 61 paid members.

A motion was made by Sharyn Knecht to accept the Treasurer's report.

Motion was seconded by Roxane Martin.

OLD BUSINESS:

Small Farm Expo: Kathy Ballantine put forth a huge effort to try and obtain enough members for this expo without success. Kathy stated that the feed back from she got from the Expo was that they very much wanted the KMHC to participate as in the past years everyone had done such a wonderful job. They very much liked the fact that the KMHC was pointing out the value of the miniature horse to small farms rather than just promoting their own farms.

The main reason most members did not want to participate was the great distance away the Expo was being held, which was New Paltz, NY. Kathy will try and find out where the Small Farm Expo will be held next year.

Kathy wanted to give special thanks to Shoe Box Stables and Sandy Gambuti who were willing to travel to the Expo.

Kathy also wanted to thank all of the past participants of the Small Farm Expo as they were the ones responsible for the wonderful feed back from the Expo.

AMHR Convention: Kelly Anderson, Kathy LaFrana and Kathy Ballantine will be our representatives at the convention. The panels for the display booth were available for attending members to see. Kelly stated that they had 50 KMHC brochures to bring with them as hand outs during the convention.

KMHC Membership Applications: Sharyn Knecht had brought samples of backgrounds for the membership applications as supplied to her from Jodi Knecht. The samples were passed around and it was a general consensus to purchase one packet of 100 count for future applications to be printed on.

Fall Fun Show: A long discussion ensued about the Fun Show due to having to cancel some classes as the show was running late. One of the issues discussed was the fact that even though the show was to start at 9 AM it did not get started until almost 10:30 AM due to late arrival of show participants. Another issue brought up was the time allowed for the obstacle course and the order of classes. Also the possibility of a need for a show Steward was discussed. The discussion on the Fun Show was shelved until the next meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

AMHR Convention: Kelly proposed we raffle off a basket of chocolates at the convention. Participants will not have to buy the tickets but will fill them out at the Convention, if they are not present for the drawing the winner must pay shipping fees for the basket. This will attract more people to the booth and the possibility of more new members. A proposal of limiting the basket to $50 was raised.

A motion was made by Karen Freeborn to have a $50 chocolate basket for raffle at the convention.

Motion was seconded by Roxane Martin.

Motion carried.

Christmas Breakfast; KHMC Christmas Breakfast will be held at Cherry's Restaurant on December 2nd at 10:30 AM.

A motion was made by Sharyn Knecht to have the KMHC 2007 Officers and the 2008 elected Officers be the guests of the KMHC for their Christmas Breakfast.

In addition the first 30 KMHC members who register to go to Cherry's Restaurant for the Christmas Breakfast will also be guests of the KMHC.

Motion was seconded by Roxane Martin.

Motion carried.

KMHC Insurance questions: Sandy Lapp is getting a quote to compare the price to our current policy to make sure our rate is in line. It's a good practice to do this every few years. Our policy renews January 1st, so any changes, if necessary, would happen before our next meeting. When Sandy Lapp receives the information she will send it out via email.

PA Farm Show: Will be held January 5th through the 12th. There is a televised driving exhibition in the arena, we need to know if they will allow the minis.

One booth would cost $115.00. A vote was taken and the general consensus was for the KMHC to participate. A committee was formed and Sharyn Knecht is the Chairperson. Volunteers so far are:

Karen Freeborn, Kelly Anderson, Roxane Martin, Sharyn Knecht, Kathy Sellers, Kathy LaFrana and Carol Smith.

A motion was made by Karen Freeborn to reserve two booths at $115.00 each.

There was a unanimous "yeah" from attending members for this motion.

Motion carried.

KMHC 2008 Elected Officers: Our 2008 Officers are:

President: Sandy Gambuti

Vice President: Kathy Sellers

Recording Secretary: Roxane Martin

Correspondence Secretary: Sandy Lapp

Treasurer: Kathy LaFrana

Newletter Editor: Kelly Anderson

The National Drive at Kentucky Horse Park: Ken Mott reported that several of our members including Ken and Linda Mott, Sharyn and Bill Knecht, and Tim and Jodi Knecht participated in the National Drive held October 10 - 14, 2007 at Kentucky Horse Park. The long weekend was devoted exclusively to equine driving.

Approximately 287 turn outs, including 4-in hand horses and horse-drawn vehicles participated in a huge carriage parade on Saturday with many antique carriages and rare breeds of horses including a Gypsy Vanner. Drivers came from across the nation as well as Canada, Great Britain, Norway, Germany and Poland for this event.

Highlighting the weekend was a series of clinics and demonstrations featuring some of the nation's most prominent clinicians and driving experts, including an introductory driving course on Sunday the 14th which was open to the public.

Ken assured us that all had a great time and that the drive was very worthwhile and the cost was very affordable. Next year the National Drive will be held on October 7th through the 12th.

Meeting Adjourned: At 3:30 PM a motion was made by Kathy LaFrana to adjourn the meeting.

Motion was seconded by Kathy Sellers.

Motion carried.
